Week 4: Out of the Frying Pan...
Out of the Frying Pan...
Hello, Everyone!
I'm proud to announce that the first part of the model project is complete. All models are assembled and ready for painting, and all within a reasonable time frame. In total, I have 32 models, including three vehicles. The building phase was, overall, fairly fun. I enjoy the assembly the most when I make models, as I feel I am given the most creative liberty to change the look of the model. Unfortunately, there were some downsides with this kit, and now I have to complete my least favorite part of modeling; painting.
Like I said, I enjoy assembly on models the most. Games Workshop kits, especially modern ones, cater towards hobbyists like me. Almost every kit they sell comes with alternative sculpts built into the kit, allowing for greater customization. For refrence, in the image below, the two sheets on the right have had their respective models (Five Each) finished. These are just the leftover options I decided not to use this time.
Of course, building this many models with such a vast array of options comes with a downside: time. Each model took about 15 minutes on its own, and when you have to assemble 25 models that all look vaguely similar, it can be quite a monotonous task. Every model has unique parts that fit to it on the sheet, and finding the specific one I need when there is no particular organization of parts is a nightmare. Don't even get me started on dropping a tiny, yet crucial piece down onto the carpet.
Despite my complaints, I really enjoyed this kit so far. Hopefully my opinion isn't soured by the next phase of the kit: painting. I make no claim that I am a good painter, but its important to me that the kits at least appear decent. Where one model might take 15 minutes for assembly, during painting a single model can easily take forty minutes to an hour.
By next Wednesday, I plan to have at least a few models painted, just to test out some color schemes I might like. Hope to see you then!
