Week 6: Little Victories

Image
Little Victories Hello, Everyone!     Well, its finally happened. After six weeks of preparation, I finally completed ONE WHOLE MODEL! Exhilarating, I know. Joking aside, I'm very happy with how my planned color scheme turned out. I tried a few different colors out, and eventually settled on Blue, Brown, Grey, and White. I painted a few models with these colors, and eventually settled on a format I liked. Forgive the quality of the pictures, getting my phone's camera to focus on a tiny model is no mean feat.            I decided to make White the primary color, with Blue the secondary. I like how much the white stands out, and the darkness of the blue helps the rest of the colors stand out more. Brown and grey make up the other details, such as extra equipment and belt straps. This model took me about 15-20 minutes, though about half that time will be cut down when I refine the process.       I make no secret of my dislik...

Week 5: Hobby Homes

Image
Hobby Homes Hello, Everyone!      This Week, I wanted to have a few models painted as concepts for the finished product. However, when I pulled out my collection of model paints, I realized I was lacking some of the paint I needed. So, for this week, I decided to take a trip to the hobby stores I frequent, and tell you all a little about them.  Zeeks Comics and Games     Anyone who knows me has probably seen me sporting my infamous Zeeks hat. Zeeks is my go-to Game Store, and I have been going here since my Freshman year of college. Zeeks is located in the Cherry Tree shopping center in Washington Illinois, next to the Kroger. Zeeks has a lively community with different games taking place every day of the week. Zeeks has a great selection of Comics, Games, Models, and Paints for many different hobby needs.  Just For Fun     I discovered Just For Fun last year, and I recommend it highly to anyone in Peoria wanting to get into Tabletop Games. Week 4: Out of the Frying Pan...

Image
Out of the Frying Pan... Hello, Everyone!      I'm proud to announce that the first part of the model project is complete. All models are assembled and ready for painting, and all within a reasonable time frame. In total, I have 32 models, including three vehicles. The building phase was, overall, fairly fun. I enjoy the assembly the most when I make models, as I feel I am given the most creative liberty to change the look of the model. Unfortunately, there were some downsides with this kit, and now I have to complete my least favorite part of modeling; painting.      Like I said, I enjoy assembly on models the most. Games Workshop kits, especially modern ones, cater towards hobbyists like me. Almost every kit they sell comes with alternative sculpts built into the kit, allowing for greater customization. For refrence, in the image below, the two sheets on the right have had their respective models (Five Each) finished. These are just the leftover opt...

Week 3: Adjusting expectations

Image
Adjusting Expectations     Hello again, everyone!     Last week, I challenged myself to completely assemble the "Cadia Stands" army box kit for Warhammer 40,000 by Games Workshop. Unfortunately for me, building models becomes even more challenging when you are sick. Using delicate movements to assemble miniature soldiers is already a demanding task for someone like me, and doing so while my body has more Nyquil in it than blood is not an easy ask. Nevertheless, I made a small amount of progress towards my goal, and I believe I have more realistic expectations for this project      Opening the box for the kit, I began my usual process of laying out all the model sprues to get an idea of how much work I was getting myself into. The models I assemble are deceptively small, comprised of a large amount of tiny plastic pieces. Here is a picture of what my kit looks like fresh from the box, which will make around 30 models.     I decided to start wi...
